Althea, a female, 7 1/2 year old, 100lb, labrador/rotweiller mix, underwent TPLO surgery for a torn ACL. I offered her Reiki in a private room pre-surgery to reduce her anxiety and need for medications while awaiting pre-op, where Althea was calm and relaxed. I was not allowed in during surgery, but sat in the private room during an hour of her surgery and offered Reiki to her. Post surgery, I was allowed into the recovery area and stayed about 2 hours offering Reiki while she was coming out of surgery.
During her recovery, because she was my canine companion, I offered her Reiki every day post surgery for the first two weeks and then randomly after that. She also received physical therapy weekly and we did our PT exercises at home as prescribed.
Althea was cleared from physical therapy at 100% recovery at 7 1/2 weeks, normally a 12 week recovery for such a large dog. She lived the rest of her life with no other ACL issues. She played ball and went on many hikes for 4 more years.
